Poliomyelitis is a highly infectious disease that most commonly affects children under the age of 5.
Most know it as poliovirus. The virus is spread person to person, typically through contaminated water. It can attack the nervous system, and in some instances, lead to paralysis. Although there is no cure, there is a safe and effective vaccine – one which Rotary and our partners use to immunize over 2.5 billion children worldwide.
Although Indonesia has been confirmed as one of the Polio-free country back in March 2014 along with 10 other South East Asia Region (SEARO), it is reported that earlier this year, Indonesia detected the circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus type 1 (cVDPV1) in Yahukimo District, Papua Province, Indonesia.
Considering the said fact, Rotary Club of Jakarta encourage you and touch your deepest sympathy to be generous to the victims and Help to Fight the disease 'til Zero! Let's stand to lend a healing hand for world Polio Eradication.
Screen the “Breath” Movie is our effort to raise money to support people particularly children afflicted with polio disease throughout the world. We also invites the polio survivor that currently active as a Rotarian to share about his struggles being the polio survivor since his early age.
